Number of TVoAs issued in Jan 2015 up 1214.9% on year due to ETA
During the month of January 2015, a total of 25,023 tourists arrived by availing of the Tourist Visa on Arrival (TVoA) enabled by Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). This is in comparison with the 1,903 TVoAs issued in January 2014, registering a growth of 1214.9 per cent. This high growth is due to introduction of ETA-enabled TVoA for 43 countries in November 2014, as per a PIB release. Prior to this scheme, the Indian government was offering the TVoA sans ETA to 12 countries.
The percentage share of top ten source countries for TVoA, in India during January 2015, was—USA (23.71 per cent), Republic of Korea (18.26 per cent), Russian Federation (14.06 per cent), Ukraine (9.99 per cent), Australia (8.83 per cent), Germany (6.53 per cent), New Zealand (2.57 per cent), Israel (1.79 per cent), UAE( 1.77 per cent), and Singapore (1.69 per cent).
The percentage share of different ports for TVoA during January 2015 was—New Delhi (36.78 per cent), Mumbai (20.41 per cent), Goa (17.78 per cent), Chennai (6.43 per cent), Bengaluru (5.28 per cent), Kochi (3.87 per cent), Hyderabad (2.73 per cent), Kolkata (4.50 per cent), and Thiruvananthapuram (2.22 per cent).
