Union Tourism Minister announces Rs 50 cr for development of tourism in AP’s Nellore district






Dr Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State with Independent Charge for Tourism and Culture and Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Government of India, has announced a sum of Rs 50 crore for the development of tourism in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh (AP) over the next five years. He said India is a country known for its hospitality; and its visitor-friendly traditions, varied lifestyles, cultural heritage, and fairs and festivals hold great attraction for tourists. He was on a visit to the Indian Institute of Travel & Tourism in Nellore recently.

The Minister also said that Domestic Tourism is as old as the Indian society. According to available statistics, Domestic Tourism has grown substantially during the last decade. Some of the recent initiatives taken by the government to boost tourism are the best examples of the government’s dedication towards tourism and culture, Dr Sharma added.

He said that the Central government has been giving funds for a number of tourism-related projects in AP and will continue to with the same. The Centre gave around Rs ten lakh for organising a Flamingo Festival in Nellore district in January 2015, Dr Sharma said. Similarly, development of Kakinada Hope Island Konaseema as a World Class Coastal and Ecotourism Circuit in AP is being supported under the new Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism.
