Civil Aviation Ministry hails Air India for evacuation of Indians from Yemen
According to a PTI report, the role of Air India Ltd. in safe evacuation of stranded Indians and people of other nationalities from war-hit Yemen was appreciated, with Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati, Minister for Civil Aviation, Government of India, felicitating the airline crew in recognition of their efforts.
"You have done us proud and I am confident that whenever the country needs the services of Air India, you will be available," Pusapati said at a function held in New Delhi yesterday to felicitate its employees who were part of the relief operations in Yemen last month.
Applauding the team for being "not unmindful" but rather "being conscious of the danger", the Minister said, "It is for the first time that I have heard other nations requesting India to assist in evacuating their nationals".
Dr Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State with Independent Charge for Culture and Tourism and Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Government of India; V Somasundaran, Secretary, Civil Aviation, Government of India; and Rohit Nandan, Chairman and Managing Director, Air India, were also present on the occasion, besides senior airline officials.
