As per a Mint report by P R Sanjai, India’s airlines may be bleeding, but their customers continue to benefit from rock-bottom fares, an official survey has found. In 2014, the average ticket price for air travel was close to the minimum tariff charged by airlines, an analysis by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) showed.
The regulator concluded that airlines weren’t overcharging, after examining fares in 18 high-traffic routes, including Bengaluru-Mumbai, Bengaluru-Delhi and Mumbai-Delhi. The study also showed that revenue generated by airlines in the highest fare bucket is little compared to that generated in the remaining fare buckets.
