EC Nasim Zaidi under lens for Yash Raj Tongia's appointment as director in DGCA

NEW DELHI: Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi, who was secretary, civil aviation in the November 2010 to July 2012 period, is the subject of a vigilance inquiry for not following proper procedure while making a decision on a key appointment in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in June 2012.

The vigilance report, reviewed by ET, questions Zaidi's role in the appointment of Yash Raj Tongia as director, flight training, DGCA. Zaidi joined the Election Commission in August 2012 and as one of the three commissioners is one of the country's most highprofile administrators.

Zaidi, responding to ET's queries, said as civil aviation secretary, he had followed all norms of government appointment, and that it was wrong to allege the civil aviation ministry at that time wanted DGCA to violate any rules.
