PM Narendra Modi pitches for experiential travel experiences at maiden GET-INDIA

The first edition of ‘Global Exhibition on Tourism’, branded as GET-INDIA, took place on the sidelines of the maiden ‘Global Exhibition on Services’ (GES) on April 23 in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The event received healthy response from the industry as Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi took time out to attend the event later in the day, a release states. Over 175 international buyers from about 50 countries across the globe were present at GET-INDIA, which featured the diverse Indian tourism products.

Speaking at the inauguration of GES, Modi made a strong pitch for India tourism, which, he said, is a significant contributor to the country’s socio-economic development. “On my recent visit to Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel had shared her inquisitiveness about making Indian curry. I will be very happy if the hospitality sector takes a cue from this instance and starts offering innovative packages. A foreign tourist will be very happy to undertake a three-day city tour package that includes two days of learning to prepare Indian food. Every state should introspect and find out the two things that are its USP, and create innovative packages around them for an experiential travel. We have to grow tourism in our country,” the PM said.
