SpiceJet extends support for relief work in Kathmandu with more flights, low fares
SpiceJet Ltd. has capped the airfare on the New Delhi-Kathmandu sector at moderate levels up to April 30, and has empowered its station manager at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan Airport to take a call on carrying ‘needy’ passengers for free. SpiceJet is also waiving all change and cancellation fees till April 30.
The airline operated three flights with Boeing 737-800 aircraft between New Delhi and Kathmandu on April 26, a day after Nepal was devastated by an earthquake, to assist the authorities in evacuation operation from Kathmandu airport, and transported over 500 passengers out of Kathmandu on these flights. SpiceJet operated two scheduled flights, SG 041 and SG 045, and one special relief flight SG 8451 on the New Delhi-Kathmandu-New Delhi sector. Due to aftershocks and weather-related issues at Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu, flights were delayed by a few hours, but SpiceJet was able to operate these services safely, as per a release.
With these three flights, SpiceJet was the only Indian low-cost carrier with the maximum number of flights on April 26 to Kathmandu, the release states. Flights departed from New Delhi, carried relief material, medicines as well as select media persons and personnel from NGOs.
Yesterday, SpiceJet operated two scheduled flights and one additional relief special flight on the New Delhi-Kathmandu sector.
